Interview with the Wise Ork
November 2012 002.jpg
~ by LizBeth ~

Finally, a chance to reveal the hidden wisdom of the ever so gentle, intellectual, sensitive and loves-to-hug, Wise Ork. What's behind all that wisdom at a very young age? Let's find out, shall we?

LizBeth: Hello Wise, so nice of you to volunteer to be interviewed.
No problem, it feels good to stand on the other side of the fence for once.

How did you come up with the RuneScape name of Wise Ork?
Well, after I had my first name for years, Greatrune11, I changed names almost every month. One day it got to the point where I simply wanted to have a name that would stick with me 'till the end, could be used as a writer's pseudonym and sounded catchy. I tried numerous combinations, then came up with the idea: I like knowledge. What if I'd make a name that's a paradox? So, Orks came to mind as the opposite of wisdom and Wise Ork was the result.

Does the name have any correlation with you in real life?
Well, it became my writer's pseudonym, so if poems and short stories posted online under that name count, then yes. If not, then no.

How long have you been playing RuneScape? Do you still enjoy playing the game?
I got my Veteran Cape in May this year, which means I was barely in time to experience Runescape without the GE 8) Now, I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. I mean, playing the same game with the same mechanics for 5 years gets boring after awhile.

My exact sentiments, I surely feel the same way. What is your favorite color?
Blue, as you might've guessed by now (: It's the colour of the sky, a sign of freedom but also a colour of rest, which are 2 values I hold dear.

When did you join Clan Quest?
According to the T6 recruitment thread it was 4 Nov 2011, although I was a member (and quit due to my own inactivity) in the past.

Were you with another clan prior to joining Clan Quest?
Nope ;D

What were your first impressions of this clan?
A friendly bunch of silly noobs. My impression never changed till this day and counting.

In your opinion, do you think there is a strong cohesion of this clan? If not, do you have any suggestions as to how to make the cohesiveness more enduring?
Absolutely! I would like to see more members to post on these forums though... It's AWESOME in here  :D

Do you play any musical instrument?
Nope ;x

I know you like Vivaldi, what is it about his music that captivates you?
The tones of freedom, like the music can give you wings to fly into the great blue sky but with the knowledge that it is not without dangers.

Do you like any other classical composer?
Beethoven, Bach,... All the cliché ones I guess :$

What other genre of music do you listen to besides classical?
Pop and CHIPTUNES

Do you have a favorite group/band/singer?
Owl City and Taylor Swift

Your favorite song(s) at the moment?
Fireworks, by Katy Perry

Do you have any words of wisdom you would like to share with your clan mates?
--Some dreams may seem impossible; the challenge is not to alter them, but to wait until they become possible. (Time will tell as they say)--
--Whatever bad stuff happens to you, it ain't a reason not to smile. It's just Fate trying to see how far we'll go, and if you don't give up you'll find yourself rewarded.--
--SMILE! If you don't know how in sad situations, just force yourself to be happy! How cruel as that may seem, it actually works (; P.S: The vial is neither half full or half empty... It's FULL -> Think about that --

MsKonnan10: You seem to have a variety of talents. You like to make videos and you did a few "Podcasts". What other on line things are you interested in doing?
Writing things (mostly poems and stories), reading (English > Dutch literature in my opinion), being happy and most importantly helping others

Can you share some real life interests with us also?
Well, the stuff I mentioned above. I also like eating (no, I'm not fat if you wonder) and chatting with friends online.

You once told me that you said you were "different". How do you feel different? What is your concept of the rest of us that makes us different? What makes us the same?
Well, I'm Autistic, I'm not afraid of telling that. But please, don't picture yourself a copy of Rain Man. The Autism I'm talking about makes me socially very awkward and introverted. The positive things are that I learn stuff that interests me amazingly fast, I have an eye for details and patterns and am far advanced on field of languages compared to others my age.
As to answer your other question, everybody is different. Cliché answer, I know, but I can't really tell you any more specifically I'm afraid. It all depends from humanoid to humanoid.
P.S: A gifted friend of mine thinks I might be gifted, too...to bad such tests cost a lot of money

You seem to have a really good memory for details. Have you any memory training hints for us? I could use some help
The funny thing is, I was born with it (read answer above). I don't follow special training or stuff, but if you want some training, here are some exercises:
1) Following is a line of random numbers. I dare you to find a pattern in it no matter how. Don't forget, they are just random numbers... or are they?
15, 47, 2014, 36, 871, 2
2) Assign a numerical value to each letter in the following random sentence (for example, A=1, B=2 or A=26, B=25,...) then find a pattern. Don't stop looking until you've found one, and please tell me your results.
"Oelaphla likes talking about fishy things."

Miss Alaska: How did you start playing RuneScape?
Euhm... I have no idea O_o Sorry

What did you do on your first day of playing RuneScape?
Aha, this I know! TUTORIAL ISLAND

What was your first quest?
Does the quest on Tutorial Island count? If not, I think it was helping some cook bake a cake... Pfuh, the cake is a lie!

'Let's start at the very beginning, a very good place to start...' Don't mind me quoting Julie Andrews there
One does not simply start at the end  :afraid:

Cireon: You seem to do a lot for the clan, I guess you do feel very connected to it?
Yes, definitely. The clan is full of friends and noobs who take me for who I am, and I'm simply returning the favour (;

How do you have so much time to do all those things?
I have no social life and I'm good enough at school to finish assignments very quickly and study hardly and still get good grades.

If you could choose one thing to do for the clan, what would it be?
Hmm... I'd beg Tohtli to finally add that button to instantly go to the bottom of a forum page, as for some topics (like Awesome Pictures for example) it can take a while to scroll down. Tohtli, if you're reading this, could you grant my wish please?  :king:

Do you think questing clans like ours should have more influence on what quests and how they are being made?
Yesh!!! Questing Clans like ours have proven themselves to know a lot about quests and lores. I think such clans should get a special forum (like the Maxed Players, Mods and Videomakers have) where Jagex would give us feedback on our quest/lore-related ideas on a more active base.

Do you like.... trains?
I like using them, does that count?  :

jrnedraw: Isnt Wise Ork an oxymoron?
*Googles* Yes, I'd think so.

What is your favorate skill?
Bankstanding! I'm one of the few to own the Bankstanding Master Cape!

Do you think you will ever change your name?
Don't think so

Anamona: Tell us something wise, your Wise Orkness.
LizBeth just asked me the same thing   But to add to that: YOU. ARE. AWESOME. Never let ANYBODY tell you otherwise, you understand?
I would like to add to my answer the following:
On the 26th October a Belgian teenager of my region got hit by a car and died... Please enjoy every living day you are allowed to experience, because you never know when life decides to stop your heartbeats and your laughter...

November 2012 003.jpg

Thank you for doing this interview, Wise Ork. It is always nice to know a bit more about you. You always have an admirable positive disposition and you are indeed a wise young man.  :D

Fact or Fiction of Thanksgiving

"The reason that we have so many myths associated with Thanksgiving is that it is an invented tradition. It doesn't originate in any one event. It is based on the New England puritan Thanksgiving, which is a religious Thanksgiving, and the traditional harvest celebrations of England and New England and maybe other ideas like commemorating the pilgrims. All of these have been gathered together and transformed into something different from the original parts." –James W. Baker, Senior Historian at Plimoth Plantation

1. Fact or Fiction: Thanksgiving is held on the final Thursday of November each year.
Fiction. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln designated the last Thursday in November as a national day of thanksgiving. However, in 1939, after a request from the National Retail Dry Goods Association, President Franklin Roosevelt decreed that the holiday should always be celebrated on the fourth Thursday of the month (and never the occasional fifth, as occurred in 1939) in order to extend the holiday shopping season by a week. The decision sparked great controversy, and was still unresolved two years later, when the House of Representatives passed a resolution making the last Thursday in November a legal national holiday. The Senate amended the resolution, setting the date as the fourth Thursday, and the House eventually agreed.

2. Fact or Fiction: One of America's Founding Fathers thought the turkey should be the national bird of the United States.
Fact. In a letter to his daughter sent in 1784, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the wild turkey would be a more appropriate national symbol for the newly independent United States than the bald eagle (which had earlier been chosen by the Continental Congress). He argued that the turkey was "a much more respectable Bird," "a true original Native of America," and "though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage."

3. Fact or Fiction: In 1863, Abraham Lincoln became the first American president to proclaim a national day of thanksgiving.
Fiction. George Washington, John Adams and James Madison all issued proclamations urging Americans to observe days of thanksgiving, both for general good fortune and for particularly momentous events (the adoption of the U.S. Constitution, in Washington's case; the end of the War of 1812, in Madison's).

4. Fact or Fiction: Macy's was the first American department store to sponsor a parade in celebration of Thanksgiving.
Fiction. The Philadelphia department store Gimbel's had sponsored a parade in 1920, but the Macy's parade, launched four years later, soon became a Thanksgiving tradition and the standard kickoff to the holiday shopping season. The parade became ever more well-known after it featured prominently in the hit film Miracle on 34th Street (1947), which shows actual footage of the 1946 parade. In addition to its famous giant balloons and floats, the Macy's parade features live music and other performances, including by the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes and cast members of well-known Broadway shows.

5. Fact or Fiction: Turkeys are slow-moving birds that lack the ability to fly.
Fiction (kind of). Domesticated turkeys (the type eaten on Thanksgiving) cannot fly, and their pace is limited to a slow walk. Female domestic turkeys, which are typically smaller and lighter than males, can move somewhat faster. Wild turkeys, on the other hand, are much smaller and more agile. They can reach speeds of up to 20-25 miles per hour on the ground and fly for short distances at speeds approaching 55 miles per hour. They also have better eyesight and hearing than their domestic counterparts.

6. Fact or Fiction: Native Americans used cranberries, now a staple of many Thanksgiving dinners, for cooking as well as medicinal purposes.

Fact. According to the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association, one of the country's oldest farmers' organizations, Native Americans used cranberries in a variety of foods, including "pemmican" (a nourishing, high-protein combination of crushed berries, dried deer meat and melted fat). They also used it as a medicine to treat arrow punctures and other wounds and as a dye for fabric. The Pilgrims adopted these uses for the fruit and gave it a name—"cranberry"—because its drooping pink blossoms in the spring reminded them of a crane.

7. Fact or Fiction: The movement of the turkey inspired a ballroom dance.
Fact. The turkey trot, modeled on that bird's characteristic short, jerky steps, was one of a number of popular dance styles that emerged during the late 19th and early 20th century in the United States. The two-step, a simple dance that required little to no instruction, was quickly followed by such dances as the one-step, the turkey trot, the fox trot and the bunny hug, which could all be performed to the ragtime and jazz music popular at the time. The popularity of such dances spread like wildfire, helped along by the teachings and performances of exhibition dancers like the famous husband-and-wife team Vernon and Irene Castle.

8. Fact or Fiction: On Thanksgiving Day in 2007, two turkeys earned a trip to Disney World.
Fact. On November 20, 2007, President George W. Bush granted a "pardon" to two turkeys, named May and Flower, at the 60th annual National Thanksgiving Turkey presentation, held in the Rose Garden at the White House. The two turkeys were flown to Orlando, Florida, where they served as honorary grand marshals for the Disney World Thanksgiving Parade. The current tradition of presidential turkey pardons began in 1947, under Harry Truman, but the practice is said to have informally begun with Abraham Lincoln, who granted a pardon to his son Tad's pet turkey.

9. Fact or Fiction: Turkey contains an amino acid that makes you sleepy.
Fact. Turkey does contain the essential amino acid tryptophan, which is a natural sedative, but so do a lot of other foods, including chicken, beef, pork, beans and cheese. Though many people believe turkey's tryptophan content is what makes many people feel sleepy after a big Thanksgiving meal, it is more likely the combination of fats and carbohydrates most people eat with the turkey, as well as the large amount of food (not to mention alcohol, in some cases) consumed, that makes most people feel like following their meal up with a nap.

10. Fact or Fiction: The tradition of playing or watching football on Thanksgiving started with the first National Football League game on the holiday in 1934.
Fiction. The American tradition of college football on Thanksgiving is pretty much as old as the sport itself. The newly formed American Intercollegiate Football Association held its first championship game on Thanksgiving Day in 1876. At the time, the sport resembled something between rugby and what we think of as football today. By the 1890s, more than 5,000 club, college and high school football games were taking place on Thanksgiving, and championship match-ups between schools like Princeton and Yale could draw up to 40,000 fans. The NFL took up the tradition in 1934, when the Detroit Lions (recently arrived in the city and renamed) played the Chicago Bears at the University of Detroit stadium in front of 26,000 fans. Since then, the Lions game on Thanksgiving has become an annual event, taking place every year except during the World War II years (1939–1944).

Smashing Pixels
Ytse's Combat Gear Guide, Part I
*******************************************

If you're like me and enjoy smashing pixels, then this is the guide for you. Confused about all those acronyms, wondering what gear to use for that Waterfiend task, pondering why everyone seems obsessed with certain weapons? Well, look no further, you've found your answers.

Part one of my guide is all about melee weaponry.

CHAOTICS

The best melee weapons are chaotics from Dungeoneering. In part 1 of my gear guide, I'll go over melee chaotic weaponry, advantages/disadvantages, and alternative options for you non-Dungeoneering types.

November 2012 005.png Chaotic Rapier (cr)
Since most slayer monsters are weak to stab, a rapier is usually the first chaotic weapon people buy. It's basically an all-purpose slayer weapon.
Pros: It hits hard. It hits often. It hits fast. Most slayer monsters are weak to it, and you look like a total badass with one.
Cons: It's bad for PVP (player versus player) and ineffective against certain slayer monsters.
Recommended For: Just about everything you can get as a slayer task, with a few exceptions.
Alternatives: Korasi's Sword, Brackish Blade, Abyssal Whip.

November 2012 006.png Chaotic Longsword (cls)
The weapon of choice for those who like bossing, the Chaotic Longsword is often people's second chaotic.
Pros: High hits and good accuracy. Good if you're going for fast kills on tough enemies.
Cons: It's slower than the rapier, so much so that the rapier outhits the longsword even on slayer monsters weak to slash.
Recommended For: Bossing.
Alternatives: Abyssal Whip, Abyssal Vine Whip.

November 2012 007.png Chaotic Maul (cm) This is just a fun weapon to have. It looks freaking awesome, and it's just fun smashing stuff. My favorite chaotic, by far.
Pros: Hits RIDICULOUSLY high, and is a rare opportunity to use the crush style.
Cons: Slow. Almost useless on enemies not weak to crush. Recommended For: Waterfiends, Gargoyles, Grotworms, Living Rock Creatures, and PVP.
Alternatives: Goliath Gloves, Saradomin Sword.

Other Melee Weaponry

Not everyone has chaotics, so here's where I'll put some mid-range gear that's still really useful.

November 2012 008.png Zamorakian Spear (zs)
-A really diverse weapon with every attack style. It's a good weapon to use if you don't mind training with shared experience, and it's an absolute necessity if you want to kill the Corporeal Beast.

November 2012 009.pngNovember 2012 010.pngNovember 2012 011.pngNovember 2012 012.png Godswords (ags, bgs, sgs, zgs)
-They're good for their special attacks, but not much else. Not really recommended for combat training.

November 2012 013.pngNovember 2012 014.png Abyssal (Vine) Whip
-Basically the go-to weapon for people who don't have chaotics. You can't really go wrong with a whip, they're cheap and effective. Adding the vine doesn't really do much except make the special attack not completely useless.

November 2012 015.png Korasi's Sword
-A good stab weapon with an incredible special attack. Very effective on metal dragons. The special's attack is based on your magic level.

November 2012 016.pngNovember 2012 017.pngNovember 2012 018.pngNovember 2012 019.png Goliath Gloves
-The best crush weapon in the game, in my opinion. They don't hit as high as a Chaotic Maul, but they hit so much faster that they more than make up for the lower hits. Definitely worth doing the Dominion Tower to get them.

November 2012 020.png Saradomin Sword (ss)
-A weapon mainly used for things you need to crush. If you don't have a maul and you can't get goliath gloves, this should be your crushing weapon.

November 2012 021.png Dragon Claws
-Completely useless except for their overpowered special attack.

That's all I got for this issue, part two of my guide will be all about magic! Thanks for reading.

~!~ The Story of our Clan Dragon ~!~
****************************************

January 2012 - 002.png

Epilogue
****************************************
(By Konnan)
****************************************
A few months ago, we left Nogard sleeping in the forest because he had no perch yet built in the citadel.
November 2012 024.png
On October 9th, we finished the perch for Nogard's citadel home. Here he is trying it out, and he looks to be giving a cheer.
Citadel - Nogard 006.png

More pictures showing him at the citadel... His perch is beside the avatar habatat. Nogard seems to ignore his three hard working neighbors. He thinks of them as just robots.

No one tells Our Dragon to go gather resources! He rules from his perch and patrols from the air. He thinks he owns the place, and humans are there to serve his needs!

Citadel - Nogard 004.pngCitadel - Nogard 008.pngCitadel - Nogard 003.png

It took the clan members a very long time to build a dragon perch.
IT TOOK TONS OF RATIONS!

Nogard seems to have a temendous appetite. When he eats too much, he just falls asleep. Sometimes you can even catch him napping.

Citadel - Nogard 007.png

Nogard started out stealing charcoal to fuel his dragon breath, but now prefers cooked fish. I wonder how many rations it will take to keep him updated? This reporter thinks Nogard should be asked to cook his own dang fish!

After all he is the one with the dragon breath...a built in cooking device. It should be much easier for him to cook fish than it is for us meer humans, who have to use the BBQ pits.
~!~

Citadel - Nogard 005.png
While we toil at the BBQ pit, Nogard swoops by over head.
I hope the ClanQuest members enjoyed their "Quest to obtain the Citidel Dragon".

Your Horoscope for the Month of November, 2012

September 2012 024.jpg

Aries (21 March – 20 April)
Finances, taxes, and intimacy are main themes for the first few weeks of the month. A love relationship reaches new depths of understanding. You are also very busy with research and investigations of all kinds. You are easily engrossed by special subjects and projects this month, and eagerly throw yourself into learning and producing. The need for challenges, whether these are mental or physical, becomes palpable from the 17th forward. A travel, publishing, creative, or educational opportunity falls into your lap in the last week of the month.

Taurus (21 April – 21 May)
Close personal relationships are in focus this month. You find yourself making concessions more than usual. A conflict between time spent with lovers or children, and time spent with friends or group activities, is likely to capture your attention. Your responsibilities might interfere with your social life this month. Your desire nature is strong from mid-month forward. A full Moon occurs in your sign on the 13th, pulling up some surprising emotions and feelings. Love opportunities are strongest on the 11 and 28. Good news arrives on the 29-30.

Gemini (22 May – 22 June)
Work continues to be in the spotlight for you this month. However, responsibilities on the home front are likely to conflict with career matters. Work is busy for you in November, and you take especial pride in what you do. From the 16th forward, a partnership steps up a notch, becoming more dynamic and dramatic, and particularly so in the last week of the month. A love relationship reaches new levels of intimacy. A loan or money owed to you could arrive on the 29-30, particularly if it involves family or property.

Cancer (23 June – 23 July)
Romance, play time, and creativity continue to take center stage in the first few weeks of November. Still, there will be times when you feel bogged down by learning, projects, paperwork, and errands. You do find time for indulging in hobbies and other pleasurable activities. Your charm runs very high again this month. The 13th brings the need to help out a friend. Work is a scurry of activity in the last week of the month, and this period also favors stepping up physical activity or health routines.

Leo (24 July – 23 August)
Domestic and family matters continue to take center stage for you this month. At first glance, the month may not seem to be as productive as most, but in fact you are building your nest , gathering your resources, and preparing for busier months ahead. A career or reputation matter demands attention around the Full Moon on the 13th. Romantic activity picks up after the 16th. Socializing on the job, and perhaps even meeting someone through work, is also part of the picture in the second half of the month.

Virgo (24 August – 23 September)
A busy month that involves plenty of errand-running, tending to paperwork, and attending appointments is in store for you. When Venus enters fellow earth sign, Capricorn, on the 12th, your charm increases and you easily attract what (and who) you want! You may have to deal with a partner who is acting a little irresponsible (in your eyes) or erratic this month. Romance without any strings or expectations might be the answer. The 15-16 is a period of strength for you, when your powers of persuasion are especially effective.

Libra (24 September – 23 October)
It s time to organize your personal finances this month, after perhaps some over-spending. November is an excellent month for budget-making, asking for a raise, and discovering new ways to boost your income. The 10-12 is a strong time for money matters. Some erratic elements on the job can leave your head spinning at times, but keeping your cool is necessary. A generally friendly, positive attitude this month helps you to do just that. The last few days of November are excellent for education, learning, and communications.

Scorpio (24 October – 22 November)
November is a month of increased confidence and initiative for you. Others are following your lead now. It s an excellent month in which to present your ideas, state your case, or simply get up to date with your emails, phone calls, and paperwork. Career offers come now, and money owed to you could also arrive, particularly in the last week of the month. You begin to realize some of your dreams of creating an ideal home environment in November, as you seem to have a handle on your daily activities.

Sagittarius (23 November – 21 December)
November is an especially strong month for you in terms of career and family matters. It s also excellent for personal finances. The first few weeks of the month could involve some sacrifices and rethinking of your plans. However, it s a time of gathering your resources for the weeks ahead. The last week of the month is extremely busy. You are willingly taking the lead and others have your best interests at heart. A lover or partner is paying a lot of attention to you, and it feels fabulous.

Capricorn ( 22 December – 20 January)
Expansion, confidence, and hopefulness are keywords for November. You are feeling good about yourself and confident about your future. A romantic revelation occurs around the Full Moon on the 13th. This is also the time when Venus, the planet of love and attraction, enters your sign. It s easier than ever to attract exactly what you want during this cycle. November is likely to be memorable for love and romance! Confusing financial matters or questions of ownership begin to resolve this month.

Aquarius (21 January – 19 February)
Business and public affairs continue to play a big role in your life in November, but the pressures and over-activity in these areas you encountered last month begin to dissipate. As a result, you re more likely to enjoy your increased exposure and recognition on a professional level. Increased responsibilities continue to be an issue in your life, but you feel more in control. Love this month is rather business-like as well, or could be found through professional contacts. Friends and group activities are strong in the last week.

Pisces (20 February – 20 March)
Your sense of adventure runs high this month, and you are itching for a change of pace. Any partnership conflicts that have been brewing are magnified in November, however. The key to resolving this potential tug-of-war is to find common ground and to renew the element of friendship and equality in your relationship. Watch for money tensions around the 4th and social blunders or misunderstandings on the 17-18. The last week of the month is outstanding for work, money, and career.

Thanksgiving Jokes

Thanksgiving jokes are fun to make up as well as memorize so one can spew them at the appropriate time on Turkey Day. By learning a few Thanksgiving jokes you may not be the life of the party, but at least you can contribute to the festiveness of the party.

Why did the turkey cross the road? To get to the other side (see chicken jokes for more info).

Why do you eat a turkey rather than keep it as a pet? Because otherwise it will use fowl language on you.

If pilgrims were alive today, what would they say? Do not resuscitate.

If April shower bring May flowers, what do Mayflowers bring? Pilgrims and furniture.

Why don't you let a turkey get near a corn? Because they will gobble, gobble, gobble it.

What do you call it when you drop a turkey from a helicopter? Dead weight.

What do you call the age of a pilgrim? Pilgrimage.

What kind of cars would pilgrims drive today? Plymouth.

What kind of tan did pilgrims get at the beach? Puritan.

What kind of face does a pilgrim make when he's in pain? Pil-grimace.

What's the smallest unit of measurement in the pilgrim cookbook? Pilgram.

What's a pilgrim's mother called? Pilgranny.

In what country is Thanksgiving ironically not celebrated? Turkey.

Dream World, by Arcelia.

Dream of a world where equality lasts
Where we're treated the same
Despite all our pasts.

Dream of a world where there's enough bread
Where there is no stealing
And there's giving instead.

Dream of a world where foe becomes friend
Where we lay down our arms
And put this hatred to end.

Dream of a world where true love breeds true
Where brothers are many
And our enemies few.

Dream of a world where everyone's home
'cause we're one big family
So no one's alone.

Know of a world where these hopes come true
Where these simple blessings
Gain their credence through you.

Blindness, By Andrew Cinqo

What does it mean to not truly see?
Can one see with more than their eyes?
And is this what causes us to tell lies?

What does it mean to not truly be free?
Can one be bound with more than chains?
And is this what causes our hearts great pains?

What does it mean to truly be blind?
Must one lose all sense to not truly see?
And will it cause someone to never be free?

What does it mean to be left behind?
Can it mean that you can no longer see eye to eye?
Or Can it mean that you feel like you could die?
