Hoods. This is Choto, once again, one year later. Remember last year when I bothered everyone so much? I know you do. I did that because that issue was going to be amazing. It was Questaholic's anniversary.

But oh yes, as I said back then, that is not exactly true. The first issue of Questaholic was published on January, not July, and the revival occured on August, NOT JULY. But, oh well. We had too many surprises, and marking special issues sounded cool.

Anyways, I have an announcement to make. As you already know, the Clan has opened to other games and new Guilds are in the process of being stablished. This means we cannot have a RuneScape-only magazine anymore. Therefore, it has been decided that Questaholic will start featuring a new variety of articles, just like it used to be. If you want to write about other games, technology, sports, music, films, books, and so on, check this thread and apply to be an Editor: https://clanquest.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=6523

That is all. But before I go, I want to thank every single person who gives life to this magazine. You are the best, by far!

And happy –so called- anniversary, Questaholic!

Bulletin - July 2018

Clan Expansion
It has taken a while, but Clan Quest is currently undergoing the process to add a second guild to our clan. We're staying close to home for this one, as the new guild is created around Old School RuneScape. The infrastructure has been in place for a while, and some of our clannies have been playing Old School for months now, so it's only natural they are officially recognised in our clan. By the time you read this, the vote may already have passed, but make sure to check out the Wiki page for more details.

In addition, thanks to Ozazoyo we now also have a representation in Guild Wars 2. Ozazoyo has created a guild in-game, so reach out in the thread to get an invite. While Guild Wars 2 doesn't have official Clan Quest recognition yet, this is a great step into securing yet another guild to Clan Quest.

Runefest
Runefest is getting closer to the horizon by the day. In the last month we had some exciting new confirmations for people joining us on Clan Quest. We are still only at nine confirmed attendees though. That is not even beating a record, let alone getting close to our goal of 50 attendees!

There is still much preparation to be done for Runefest, so getting a better idea on number of attendees is very helpful. Please confirm your attendance as soon as you're able to. Goodie bags will be provided.

We're not sitting still in the meanwhile. We're still hoping to finish our branding on time for some cool gear to kit you out with so you can look the bomb at Runefest. We will also plan cool activities. The more you let us know about your preferences about what to do, the better we can plan, so head on over to the planning thread to get involved now.

Survey
Last year we did a big survey about the clan. We're planning on doing another one this year to see how we improved, how the new clan structure is working for you, and more. If you have anything you would like to put on our agenda for the survey, don't hesitate to get in touch with me directly. I can't promise anything though, because last year you made it clear you want the survey to be shorter :)

Summer break
Summer break will be coming up for most people on the northern hemisphere. If you suddenly find yourself with a lot of free time on your hands, we can always use some extra help around the clan. Don't instantly think you wouldn't like the work, because I'm sure we can find something interesting for you to work on. Reach out to me directly and we can talk.

On a general note, traditionally we see some people returning to the game during the summer months. Make sure you welcome them back, you may make some new friends along the way!

Article by Cireon

For such an special issue, we needed a very special interviwee. And who would be better than this person, who was a magazine contributor for so long. Her lore and questing articles are almost a trademark in Questaholic. To celebrate this anniversary, I have the pleasure of introducing the lorehound, the trimmed completionist, master quester and former Head of Low Council: Miss Alaska!

QUESTAHOLIC PRESENTS

An interview with Miss Alaska

By Choto.

<::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::}]xxxx()o

July 2018 002.jpg

SLAYER

With Australia being the dangerous country it is, how did you ever find the time to play RuneScape while also surviving?
It seems to work out beneficially. Most days I’d find myself stuck playing RuneScape for too many hours without a break then WHAM! Eastern brown snake jumps me from behind and I can’t get back to gains until that thing is subdued. If it weren’t for the constant threat of untamed wildlife I’d be forgetting to sit up, stretch and hydrate.

July 2018 003.jpg

Is the name Miss Alaska an expression of your distaste of the Australian heat?
It didn’t originate from that, but I wouldn’t deny the notion either. Alaska looks wonderful.

If there's one thing you could add to RuneScape, why would it be another agility skill?
There’s something thoroughly satisfying about watching your avatar parkour around Gielinor, right? Agility 2.0 will have more stunts, more shortcuts over obstacles. You’re basically Captain America now.

Did you mind answering my very silly questions?
No, they were unexpectedly thought-provoking.

If there's one thing you could remove from RuneScape, what would it be?
Probably the Menaphos city quests because I’ve done a number and they aren’t very rewarding.

SCORPION

What would be an idea for a new quest if Jagex asked?
Reluctant team-up with previous enemy to complete a mission and save the day. Like a buddy road trip. General Khazard, Nomad, Surok Magis, Vanstrom, Zemouregal, Sliske…any candidates like those.

July 2018 004.jpg

Any other favorite games besides Runescape?
Portal 2, Witcher series, BioShock 1 and 2 (still need to play Infinite), Jak and Daxter trilogy, Shadow of the Colossus. A lot of narrative driven one-offs there. Since taking a break from RS I’ve just been working through what I can. So my pool of familiar games is small compared to most people, I expect.

What's your favorite season and why?
Winter because it’s cold and I can wear jackets and boots comfortably. Early morning sunrises with the crisp and foggy air, auh! It’s beautiful.

What's the meaning of life?
Have a good time with the years you have but don’t trash the house from partying too hard.

July 2018 005.jpg

Cabbage?
Yes.

KAT

Is it cold enough in winter for you in Australia?
Could always do with a bit of snow, but either way I am content with how cold it is right now.

Do you like sheep?
Charming animals happy with eating grass and not interfering with the world too much. I think they’re neat.

July 2018 006.jpg

How long have you been a member of the clan?
Around 6 years counting back from now.

What do you do in your free time?
Sleep during the wrong hours, catch up on the extensive backlog of TV shows / movies, play through backlog of Steam / console games, read books / comics, watch YouTube videos, browse Tumblr, browse Facebook (mostly for the shitposting groups).

If there was one city in RS you would like to redesign which would it be and why?
I think Varrock, because down on paper it comes across as an important location for Gielinor. But in the game itself, Varrock is rather lacklustre. Doesn’t have very many useful features besides Grand Exchange. It needs an updated appearance and content that is useful for today’s players.

Cats, Dogs or Elephants?
Cats probably. Dogs a close second.

KAREN

How many times do you brush your teeth a day?
Normally once at night. Sometimes that’s in the morning if I am going out somewhere. Sometimes it’s both times in one day (wow!).

How often do you floss?
Once a month likely, when I get anxious about my gums. Not often enough.

What brand of toothpaste do you use?
Whatever is in the toothbrush jar which is normally Colgate.

What are your favorite pair of shoes you currently own.
My doc martens.

July 2018 007.jpg

How often do you exercise?
Practically never which is a stark difference compared to two years back.

Whats the fastest you've ran 1 mile?
I wouldn’t have a clue. Never timed myself when I was doing regular runs unfortunately.

What is your favourite snack?
Blueberries haven’t done me wrong.

What is your favourite anime, and why?
Fullmetal Alchemist – 2003 version, contrary to most of the fans out there. I just liked the pacing, the personalities of its characters, and despite it going on its own tangent from the comic (unfinished source material), I liked its story better. It felt less centred around the plot / backstory details and took the time to contemplate on its characters. Got emotionally invested and stayed that way right to the end. Also its orchestral soundtrack is perfect.

July 2018 008.jpg

TYCO

What's your reaction if I tell you I'm a big fan of your quest guides and those amazing montages I keep viewing from time to time?
Pretty awesome to hear!

Any chance we can see you at RuneFst 2018?
Unfortunately no. 2015 was a bit of a once-off when time opened up.

What's your secret in being so AWESOME!??!?
Be kind to people but keep things real. I have no idea to be honest.

What is your earliest RuneScape memory?
Waiting a long time to install java on dial-up. In the actual game…probably starting Restless Ghost.

July 2018 009.png

How would you describe yourself, both IRL and in game?
IRL: tired, priorities askew, nerd, likes red wine.

In-game: hardcore scaper, obscure lore knowledge, manages to be bad at everything despite extensive play hours.

What item do you use the most, both IRL and in game?
IRL: desktop computer.

In-game: completionist(t) cape for teleport I suppose.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?
The Underworld to check in on my boys Death and Icthlarin.

July 2018 010.jpg

You get 30 seconds of full attention from all employees of Jagex. What do you say?
Thanks for all the cool memories you’ve given me while playing RuneScape over the years and the trimmed comp requirements have ruined me. More quests, please. Audio team, you’re doing excellent.

Tell me your darkest secret that would make the Wise Old Man give you his blue partyhat.
I don’t enjoy training agility. It’s more of a habit.

ALEX 43

Have you actually ever been to Alaska? ... yes, I know you already answered this a LOT, but I think you can do a lot better. Start with a deep breath. Bring out your chest, hold your head straight, and look me in the eyes. It's gotta be full of confidence. There is no room for debate. You know the answer to this question, and it is not a speculative guess backed up by meager reasoning. This is the absolute TRUTH you're speaking here. Undebatable. Unquenchable. With your answer, you will make plains rumble and mountains sigh. You will make oceans dance the world around them, smashing the coastlines like a sumo wrestler pushing his opponent out of the ring. You will be heard far and wide, across nations and throughout history! Big and powerful! ANSWER! And then take that belted out answer and hyper-compress it into the single word that personifies it the most. Type that word down, one strong, powerful key at a time, and let the very pixels wash your screen clean of all the wrongs the internet had put upon it. Know that this word is one of the few words of absolute truth that the electronic abyss has to offer, and with the light shining through all our monitors, a beacon shines to the hopeless that there is the potential of a better future. Give the whole world HOPE with your exquisitely performed answer, and let the truth be drilled permanently into our thickening skulls so that we may never forget the glory that is reality and all it has to offer. Now submit that answer, and feel accomplished. That you did something spectacular, and that should you die tomorrow by bus or runaway ambulance, there will be no lingering regrets as you breath your final, beautiful breath still fermented with the fresh, delightful smell of uncorruptable truth.
No.
Bit anticlimactic after all that highly theatrical build. Sorry.

July 2018 011.jpg

ROW

What's your favourite activity in all of Gielinor?
Playing that brand new quest, straight off the shelf.

Would you answer these questions without copy-and-pasting if someone above already asked the same question?
Yeah, I’d try to give a new spin on the answer if possible.

If you're Australian, why are you called Miss Alaska?
Were you to ask my 11 year old self she’d say Alaska sounds like a cool name.

If you're not Australian, why do you think I thought you were Australian?
I might have mentioned it once in passing conversation. Or someone else did.

What would you ask yourself that you wish someone else here asked but didn't?
Who is your favourite Transformer?

Do you remember me at all from the CC?
It’s embarrassing to admit, but not particularly well beyond your intro post for the site. I got worse at keeping track of people in recent months before taking a break from the game. Got something to jog my memory?

What is your opinion of Choto 3000?
Friendly dude, the sort of go-to guy that makes the clan feel like a home in RuneScape. Dependable. Appreciate the work he’s put into Clan Quest in-game and beyond.

July 2018 012.png

What is your favourite dessert?
Lemon meringue tart.

OZA

If you could go into RuneScape (and have the same skills/abilities as your character), where would you go and what would you do?
Upon arriving I’d probably go fight something like solo Nex just for the adrenaline rush - challenging enough but not so much that I’m too banged up. I’d be tired afterwards so the next stop would be Rellekka to enjoy some meat and mead in the longhall with the Fremennik crowd. Tip the bard for a couple songs perhaps. Then before the day is out I’d teleport to Tree Gnome Stronghold, invite Ozan to meet me at Blurberry’s Bar (he just seems like a cool drinking buddy) and we’d bet on who can finish off the most Wizard Blizzards.

What’s your favourite types of music, and/or favourite artists/groups?
Favourite sort of music tends to be original soundtracks from movies / TV / games. That’s what I listen to the most frequently. In addition, probably anything electronic like club or hardstyle, good old-fashioned rock, metal, rap. Well-known tracks from 80s, 90s, early 00s. I like classical music too (you know, the really old stuff).
I don’t really follow artists or groups specifically, it’s typically genres or stand-out pieces. Even then I’m not too discriminate, just what I like the sound of.

What’s your favourite movie? (Don’t have to pick a definite #1 just whichever comes to mind)
The Avengers. I’ve been annoyingly Marvel-obsessed since the lead up to Infinity War and like you mentioned, I couldn’t really pick a single movie. Too many favourites collated over the years. Avengers is just the first coming to mind.

July 2018 013.jpg

What’s your favourite childhood cartoons
Avatar: The Last Airbender – which wasn’t exactly such a big deal in my childhood, I only watched several episodes back then. It’s just one of my favourite TV shows present day. Others might be Cyberchase, The Simpsons, Futurama (closer to pre-teens). Obscure stuff from ABC Kids like The Big Knights, Bounty Hamster, King Arthur’s Disasters, A Town Called Panic. There’s likely a series of other titles I can’t recall, all mostly BBC cartoons that made their way to the ABC channel.

I remember being at your trim cape party (I think it was trim), what have you been doing in RuneScape after getting such an achievement?
After getting trimmed I mostly focused on combat-related goals. Improving on PvM so that I might actually be useful for team bosses. I was quite satisfied with what I learned alongside PvM friends and bossing was becoming a fun activity, rather than simply existing as an annoying trim comp obstacle. Never got that 500% enrage Telos kill, but was becoming better compared to my early fights against him. Can’t remember much else going on besides part-time gameplay on my alt account working through RS quests.

What’s your favourite skill and why?
Probably wrong of me to not say agility, but it’s dungeoneering. I’ve gone from calling dungeoneering a dumb minigame pretending to be a skill to relenting and just enjoying the content offered by it. Plus, it has some good lore attached.

July 2018 014.jpg

What’s your favourite quest and why?
Tough one and this changes regularly because I have a couple favourites. I don’t remember being more excited playing through a quest than I had been during While Guthix Sleeps. It has a rich story, lore, intrigue, engaging puzzles and combat (back then, anyway), charismatic NPCs you’re attached to, awesome confrontations with an iconic villain and it reveals that there is a lot more to the world of Gielinor than you had first been assuming.

July 2018 015.png

SULI

First of all, hoods? or Woofs?
Hoods. What kind of Clan Quester do you take me for?

Do you like sushi? If so, what kind? If not, what is your favorite cuisine?
Yes I like sushi. Only when it’s good quality though. There’s a shop near the university campus that does the best sushi ever. I get this thing called a rainbow pack. I have no idea what the actual name of this sushi is but it’s basic stuff with salmon, avocado and cucumber and it tastes good. It’s light but filling, if that makes sense. Haven’t grown tired of it yet.

Ideal honeymoon spot?
Fancy hotel suite in the middle of the Swiss alps.

Favourite RuneScape quest?
Without mentioning While Guthix Sleeps and Missing Presumed Death, it’s probably Fate of the Gods or The World Wakes. Can’t choose between those two.

Favourite RuneScape skill?
After dungeoneering, it’s agility. Mostly for the fact that I could work through so many movies and TV shows while training it. And it is parkour for RuneScape.

Favourite Clan Quest member?
Draz, because he can make balloon animals.

Hoods?
Hoods.

ISKH

There are flat earth society members all around the globe, do you know any?
I haven’t had the chance to meet one yet, but I imagine it would be a highly entertaining experience over a few drinks.

In New Zealand they have Shelob and the ruins of the twin towers. So in Australia I imagine there is Fury Road. Have you ever visited?
Yes it’s the main road I take to get to my university campus and the traffic there is WILD during peak hours.

July 2018 016.jpg

Or is it too dangerous as it is inhabited by post apocalypse petrol heads.
So long as you’re the guy with the bigger stick, you’re fine.

FENN

How much wood could a woodcutter cut if a woodcutter could cut wood?
Enough to make a living you’d hope.

Favourite piece of Runescape music?
Too many so I went for the first random title that came to mind which was Memories of Guthix followed sharply by Anima.

CHOTO

HOODS
Hoods!

When did you start playing?
Around about October 2008.

What was your very first accomplishment cape?
Quest Point cape.

July 2018 017.jpg

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?
Just find a kangaroo and try petting it. It will run away, but it’s worth a shot.

What are your favourite cities/locations, both in RS and in real life?
RuneScape: Tree Gnome Stronghold because I think it’d be quite lovely to visit and the gnomes are relatively friendly. Death’s office. Freneskae is a really badass location. I like the snowy areas close to Rellekka too.
IRL: London. Options are rather limited because I don’t travel much but London is the favourite so far. My bedroom’s a pretty familiar location that I spend most time in so I’ll add that down.

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?
"All things must die. That is the balance of life. For life to have meaning, it must be finite. The longer we live the more we realise that all things come to an end and that nothing is truly forever. It is mortality's greatest gift that things like friendship, peace, and love can seem eternal.”
I don’t really have a go-to motto in my life but there’s a couple in my quote collection that have a similar theme as the one above. I’ll leave you to name the character this one stems from.

I know this one is gonna be hard, but: Which quest you believe to be the best?
I already mentioned While Guthix Sleeps as my favourite quest. Is it the best? Probably. But I’ll offer up another favourite as a contender - Missing Presumed Death. Come on man, the voice acting in this one was awesome!

July 2018 018.png

Do you play an instrument? If not, which instrument/s would you like to learn?
No. I’d love to learn piano or violin if I had the time and energy to commit.

Tell us the story behind your name!
So picture 11 year old Alana looking at the username field for the RuneScape account creation screen in 2008. Mostly at random she thinks ‘Alaska’ is a cool sounding name. Different, sleek. Not available. ‘Miss Alaska’? Not available. ‘Miss Alaska2?’. This one hasn’t been taken. It’s not the first choice but it’s a compromise.

How many languages do you speak? Which one would you like to learn?
Just English. I’d like to pick up where I left off from grade 8 French - but similar to the question about playing an instrument, I don’t really have the time or energy to commit for it to be a rewarding venture.

If you had to escape your country immediately, what's the one thing you'd take with you?
My smartphone (and charger if that still counts as one) because I could access important details for nearly anything that I require.

Who is the one clannie you really miss?
Hmm. Ytse? I think he’s still around every now and again though.

What’s your first memory of the Clan?
Ytse and Viperxk discussing tactics for fighting Nomad and then both of them going to Dominion Tower to fight its Nomad.

Which is the most interesting God? (You might add a real-world one if you feel like it) Why?
Icthlarin. He’s a bit of a favourite but I still appreciate all the other gods with their distinguished personalities and histories. I just love the angst, man!
First you have here a young demi-god who had grown to become a failure in the eyes of his father Tumeken. Icthlarin’s forced into the role of guarding the Underworld so that he might learn responsibility. He was also the one responsible for bringing the Mahjarrat to Gielinor. After the Mahjarrat’s betrayal and the escalation of the war against the Zarosians, we see Tumeken sacrificing himself in a last ditch effort to end the war. Amascut’s remaining shred of sanity is lost. Icthlarin now has to cope with the death of his father, the devastation of the Kharidian lands, and Amascut’s crumbling mind as she turns from sister to enemy.

July 2018 019.jpg

By the end of it all, and when the adventurer meets Icthlarin, he’s been through a lot. Even still, he has the new challenges of the sixth-age to deal with brought on by Sliske and the returning gods. All the while dealing with his crazy sister. This poor guy desperately needs a win.
I really can’t do this story justice though. It’s all neatly written here https://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Transcript:Icthlarin .

Coffee or tea?
Coffee, but they’re both good for me.

Best thing of Clan Quest?
It has a nice mix of old and new, experienced players and people learning the ropes.

Best movie ever?
After The Avengers, probably The Lord of the Rings (pick one from the trilogy they’re all decent).

Best book ever?
Most books I read are part of a series…but I don’t know if I could even single out a favourite series. I’d say the Witcher books but I really didn’t like the Rats chapters, it’s the Hansa chapters that elevates that series. Maybe Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman?

What did you want to be when you were a child? Was your desire to be...A LUMBERJACK?!
Well yes, now that you mention it. I... I wanted to be... A LUMBERJACK!

What...is your name?
Arthur, King of the Britons.

July 2018 020.jpg

What...is your quest?
To seek the Holy Grail.

What...is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?
What do you mean? An African or European swallow?

[Editor’s note: Huh? I... I don't know that.

July 2018 021.jpg

*is thrown over*]

Are you the Messaiah?
I am NOT the Messiah!

What is the meaning of life?
Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations.

It’s surprising to see how much you have in common with someone living in such a hostile environment. From the stories I hear, you would expect that only barbarians inhabit there. It was really cool to be your interviewer in this round 2, Alaska. Thank you!

I nominate Iskh. She bumps the T10 since a very long time back. While it's something very small, it's those little details that makes people find that thread and get to know of our existence. And she has been doing it for years! That's what I call dedication.

i would like to nominate kebabthief. i had some problems with my pc, got some great help and advice from some of the guys in disc a couple of weeks ago, and kebab sent a link with info that solved the issue.

Five judges were involved in the selection of a winner. And they chose....

Congratulations!

Wait a second... -You may say- What are the RAWR Awards?? Check this link!

PS: Please remember no clannie is better than other just because they won a RAWR edition. You're already a winner if you made it to this thread, because it means you care about others and make our clan a better place every day. Congratulations to Iskh, Kebab and Wolffi. See you next month!

In July 2010...
Clan Quest began holding multi-clan Stealing Creation events with the Caped Carousers, one of the Clans first major inter-clan events. On the 14th, a major fight occurred between two high ranking members of the Clan, forcing the Clan's leaders to publicly intervene for the first time. This event eventually led to the creation of the Honor Council.

In July 2011...
The Original "RAWR" event, then known as "Random Acts of Wicked Randomness", featuring a list of randomly selected ingame events, began on the 11th. It would later be revived as "C.O.R.E.". On the 18th recruitment was closed so that the recruitment procedure could be reworked, in response to the Clan's then rapid growth.

On the 26th Clan Citadels were released in RuneScape, marking the beginning of our own. On the 28th Lord Earth was nominated to be the Head of Low Council, a position he would quickly receive. The following day the official "Clan Charter" was accepted and made into Clan Law by both the High and Low Councils.

In July 2012...
On the 23rd Recruitment was closed so that both the recruitment processes and ranks could be reworked. On the 29th the third, and final, Quest Fest was held.

In July 2013...
The largest "Clan Auction" was held, this time with several different Clans in attendence. The event was a major boon to the Clan's bank funds.

In July 2015...
Throughout the month efforts were made to put together a Clan Quest-produced "Lore Bible" for the first time. On the eighth AlphaLeo resigned from the Honor Council, to be replaced by Seb by popular vote later that month, on the 21st. Wolffi became the head of the Razzers on the eighth.

On the 13th, Santa Ends revived the monthly "Clan Member Interviews" that had stopped when the Questaholic was cancelled in December 2014. This would ultimately lead to the Questaholic's revival.

In July 2016...
The Questaholic magazine released a special edition featuring interviews with Meneer Naab and Mod Raven, two popular figures, in celebration of its relaunch anniversary.

In July 2017...
Tyco Elf was given the website/forum moderator role on the eleventh. On the 23rd the "Biggest and Best Clan Quest Survey" began. On the 24th the "Random Acts of Win Reward" was reimplemented by Choto 3000.

Have you ever wondered about how a community like ours got a newspaper? Not many other gaming communities have a regular newsletter, certainly now one with as many contributors as ours. How did it happen? Where there hiccups? Take a stroll with me down memory lane while we consider how spectacular this anniversary edition of the questaholic truly is…

A long time ago (October 2011) Clan Quest went through the process of merging another clan into its own. This has happened multiple times in the past, but none were quite as interesting as this particular merger. The leader of Wolf’s Eye, Daviddts, upon joining Clan Quest realized something very important about our community. We have a whole bunch of people who are leaders and contribute, and there wasn’t anything for him to “lead” with the daily operations of Clan Quest. After a long conversation with me about feeling useless, I suggested he start a new project, and the idea of the Questaholic was born.

In my head, I always thought the idea of a monthly magazine would be very fun. For those who look back on my history, I was involved in a couple different RuneScape newspapers before Clan Quest. We have a lot of creative people who would love an outlet to express themselves and share, and we have a community that would greatly benefit from a centralized news source. After all, if you live in a weird time zone, sometimes it’s hard to find all the details and stay informed on clan business. That’s where the magazine has its benefits.

Unfortunately, though the idea was proposed in October, and had a lot of support, Daviddts ended up leaving Clan Quest (and the game). A project that had a huge following looked like it was going to fail, because it didn’t have a figure head to pull it through. This is where the miraculous part of the story comes in. Would you believe that the magazine continued to run without a central leader? With most of the operations in the clan, like recruitment or event hosting, one person pushes the effort forward.

The Questaholic is a truly unique situation because a whole bunch of people did it together, with no single person in charge. It’s also one of those rare things in which I had absolutely zero input. I did nothing, nor have I done much even to this day, with the daily management of the Questaholic. Those people who are privy to the inner workings of the clan know I keep my tentacles involved in everything. Everything, that is, except the questaholic.

There is an excellent article about the Questaholic and its history: https://clanquest.org/wiki/Questaholic.

One of the biggest successes of the Questaholic and its articles since its original conception, and especially in the most recent reformation lies in the interviewing of people. Our first interview was with Max (the NPC) and then followed by myself and Bigg Doggg and many others.

I look back at that interview:
https://clanquest.org/wiki/Questaholic_-_February_2012
So long ago. It’s crazy to remember sitting down to write my responses to these questions, and thinking to myself, “will anyone actually read this?” They do.

To the people who are working with the Magazine now, they do an excellent job. I love contributing my little article. I wish I could convince others to add their little articles too. It’s a cool project, and the people who make it work are truly badass.

A Beastmaster Durzag's guide

July 2018 023.jpg

By
July 2018 024.png

Before Entering:

Select 2 people to release chargers
Select 2 people to be pet tanks
Select 2 people to be main tanks (base and back up)

To start the fight, one person will talk to the Goebie in the center of the arena (yellow dot)

July 2018 025.png

Starting the Fight
A few seconds after talking to the Goebie, multile waves of airut and chargers will come out of each of the four gongs. There are 4 gongs in total, one in the middle of each wall.

July 2018 026.png

The airuts will almost always start with their special, which hits for rapid 1500's without prayer. It is advised to pray range and ice barrage to freeze the melee airut, so that they can't use their attacks.

When there are 21 airuts on the counter, a minion named Cormes with 500k hp will spawn on the west wall, along with the normal wave of airuts and chargers. Cormes will attack primarily with Range, and occasionally mage.

it is recommended to have one person provoke Cormes and pray range, standing apart from the main group while the others kill the airuts. Leave the chargers as long as possible to delay the next wave of airuts. In any case, the airuts hit harder than Cormes, so PRIORITIZE them.

When all the airuts are dead, Durzag will jump over the north wall, from the northeast corner, and either Tuz or Kraar will appear next to him.

Fight Tactics

Roles
2 Main Tanks
2 Dog Tanks
2 Charger Cage Openers
4 DPS

DPS
Watch out for either being pulled by Durzag or barged by the dogs. In any case, be prepared to pray melee (maybe even have it on your bar) if you become MD to any of the three.

If you see any bombs near you, defuse as many of them as you can (left click).

The DPS should stand in the center of the arena and DPS the dogs (Tuz and Kraar) down to 150k each, using maximum DPS rotations. At this point, kill both dogs at around the same time, and move on to beast master.

Watch out for the bombs, as he now releases 1 per person. Continue with max deeps.

Charger Cage Openers

There are small cages around the arena walls, which will be filled with charges when the beastmaster spawns.

July 2018 027.png

The tanks should pray melee and open all the cages. Typically, they will start in one of the corners, and meet in the opposite one, where all the chargers are targeting them. Deotion helps reduce damage from this)

They should then death dot (stand on same square) and use multi target abilities such as :

Mage: Chain, dragon breath, detonate, corruption blast, tsunami
Range: Ricochet, bombardment, corruption shot

Kill all the chargers; once they are dead, you should DPS for the remainder of the kill.

Pet Tanks
Durzag will deal increased damage the closer his pets are to him, so the dog tanks should take Tuz and Kraar to the corners, away from the two maintanks.

The two dog tanks should take the dogs to the corners of the room and make them face away from the DPSers (face the wall). This way, the dogs will only melee and rarely use the distance attacks (mage/range) to hit the DPS. If you are learning to pet tank, you can use a shield, but make sure to DPS the pets (appropriate defensives are devotion/resonance/debilitate/reflect. DO NOT USE ULTIMATE DEFENSIVES). As pet tank, you should also do a lot of DPS to your pet.

July 2018 028.png

Occasionally, the dogs will change targets and use the Barge ability. At this point, the tank should provoke it back and stand 7+ squares away, then use freedom to escape the stun. Provoking should be the first priority, because it can aggro on the main tanks. Once your pets die, you should DPS for the rest of kill

Main Tanks
When gearing for main tank, you should use 3 (experienced) or 5 (learning) pieces of Achto gear. You should also be on the default spellbook, and use vulnerability.

The two main tanks should take Durzag to the south east corner when the chargers in that area are gone (hold him by the east gong until then). One Tank should have him in Melee distance, and the other should stand in the corner. Once the chargers are gone, the tank in the corner vokes him, and the other runs to the "corner" by the south gong. Until the pets die, you should only need the one tank, so have the other DPS.

Once the pets die, alternate between defensive and holding him until you start getting hit hard, then let the other tank take him until the enrage stacks clear. When BM isn't on you, make sure to be DPSing

Congratulations on killing Durzag, and good luck with your loot!

Article by Choto 3000

Hello all members of Clan Quest. Today I want to highlight a discussion we in the Guild Council had about third party tools in Runescape. To give you a summary: Third party tools has for some time been discussed whatever they should be allowed, both by Jagex and Clan Quest. We both strife to support your enjoyment and safety when engaging with the activities we are offering. We who aim to aid the players have our view of how to play the game. Third party tools are developed and used by people who have their own view of how the game should be played. Thus comes the question: Is this a kind of gameplay we want to support?

Jagex made a stance about the Alt1 toolkit, but Clan Quest haven't. Until now. We have for quite some time had a discussion about whatever Alt1 is a tool we should allow. We, at the end of the day, have decided to respect those who wishes to use Alt1 but strongly discourage to use it or any other third party software. We of the Guild Council also want to be an example of this and are contemplating on banning the use of third party software of all members who have a Council position. We will inform you if this decision is made. This isn't something that's gonna happen today or tomorrow, but in due time.

As mentioned, we are discouraging the use of Alt1 and any other third party programs for several reasons. Shane has been very kind and written an article: The Ongoing Crusade Against Third Party Tools. I strongly encourage to give it a read. For those who want a summary of why we were having this discussion, I will go through some of the points that could be a threat for your gameplay:

Security

It's very sad that I have to remind how incredibly dangerous it is to fill in your password with a third party program installed. And Alt1 is a third party program, like it or not. I'm not saying the developers have evil intentions. I'm saying there are ways to exploit this software, by developers and hackers alike. Runescape accounts and GP are being sold on the black market and targeted every day. Hopefully we are all aware of not trusting people who claim to be Jagex Moderators and ask you for your account details. But no matter how aware a person is, there is little to do when having a third party program installed in which you have no way of controlling the security of. And to counter the people who are using the Authenticator: If a hacker got your username (which in most cases are your email) and your password, how many other accounts do you use who are connected to that email, username and/or password? Chances are pretty high that one can reach Facebook, Twitter, Discord or any other personal account.

The Rules of Runescape

The Rules of Runescape states the following: Software that can be used to gain an unfair advantage in our games may not be used. This is a layer of protection so the players of Runescape can play the game on equal ground. This rule not only ensures that actual people play the game, but also that the players can be recognized for their achievements. This is where their time put into the game gains value. But as seen with Jagex's stance on the matter, the rule is incredibly grey on exactly what is "an unfair advantage". Nevertheless, in a clan where we aim to create a healthy community, Alt1 does not have a place here to contribute.

Clan and Player Values

But whatever the security and the rules of Runescape says, the most important thing is our values. Rule 9 in our revised code reads Play fair. Play smart. Give it your all. Is someone who are using third party programs giving their all? Then there's also the question of personal value. When Squeal of Fortune was introduced, the value of accomplishments in skills and wealth dropped as a result of being able to buy your way to max in all stats or obtain ingame currency through microtransactions. Similarly, the Alt1 doesn't just affect the ones who chose it but also those who reject it. Knowing or imagining others obtaining what you have worked hard for without putting as much effort as you makes the experience a less fun one. Especially during clue scrolls.

Thanks you for reading. Tyco elf, Head of the Guild Council of Runescape 3.
