CLAN QUEST PEOPLE
by Santa Ends
An Interview with Marnit

~!~ ***** ~!~

Hello clannies, with us this month we have 2 interviewees, Marnit and Derparnieux. Be sure not to miss the second one below. First we have Marnit from Prifdinnas the Netherlands.

August 2016 002.png
August 2016 003.jpg

Choto:

Hello Marnit, Choto here.
So...

What was your very first accomplishment cape?

This might surprise you, but it was not bankstanding.
I only got that one less than a month ago.
Come to think of it, I got 99 but never got the cape.
Where do i claim it?
Hmm...

My first cape was probably the same as many other members, the quest point cape.

Well, I've pretty much always used to be a follower of guthix...
...Untill jagex decided to murder the crap out of him, that is...
And as a result I'd taken to keeping my levels balanced as well.
As a ground rule my highest and lowest level where never more than 5 levels apart.
That resulted in also leveling combat equal between all three styles, making hitpoints my first cape.
These days known as constitution however.

Where are you from?

The northern part of the Netherlands, on the border of forest and polder regions.
(Former seabed drained from water)

[]

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?

Arrange travel?
Probably get youself a box or two of hagelslag, a lot of people like it, and it hardly available in other places...
(Its small pieces of chocolate to put on your slices of bread)

-What are your favourite songs, both in RS and in real life?

Hmm, lets see...
Runescape
With Vocals: "Among Tirannwn Trees" & "Balad of the Basilisk"
Instrumental: "Zanik's Theme" & "Zaros Stirs"

Probably forgotten a few good ones that might have been better, but oh well.

Now in real live, I tend to listen to all kinds of stuff.
Currently have a playlist of 1160 songs on, so ehhhh.
Recently I've been listening to Susanne Sundfør a lot.

August 2016 004.png

But i'm always quite partial to Tori Amos' "Winter" however...

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?

I guess don't worry too much about things?
Yeah not a real good phrase, but I'm not an 80s action movie star spewing one liners...
...sadly?

August 2016 005.png

Which quest you believe to be the best in rs?

Probably still "While Guthix Sleeps", it was hyped up immensely pre release, and somehow didn't dissapoint.
It felt lengthy, meaty, full of lore, and some interesting mechanics.

Do you play an instrument? If so, which one and which is you favourite music gender?

Not anymore, but I have played in a marching band in the past, on percussion.
I wasn't really good though.

August 2016 006.png

Favourite music gender?

Probably going to get into some serious issues with correctness on this, but i'd say female.
Though there is plenty of good male singers too...

Noggy:

how much wood would a wood chuck chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood?
and whats the answer to life?

42?

Karen:

What is your normal blood pressure?

Acording to google it seems I should hope it's close to 120/80, but I have no clue however.
Never measure it.

How often do you brush your teeth?

Not enough, I'm afraid.
On the bright side, I seem to have pretty good teeth anyway however.

Do you floss?

Nope.

What is the healthiest food you eat on a weekly basis?

In our family there is an in-joke about raspberries being the healthiest thing in existence, ever since some research stated they had higher then average vitamin contents or something.
But I don't eat that weekly.
I'd guess potatoes, pasta, and vegetables?
Sidenote: I'm actually a vegetarian, so I don't eat any meat.

Do you like anime? if so which one is your favorite?

Does "Rick and Morty" count?
It's great...
Shame the next season is still a long way off.

August 2016 007.png

Do you like tea or milk more?

Oh that one's easy, Tea.
I don't really like the taste of milk itself, milk products are fine however.
And now I want a milkshake, damn...

if you had 24 hours to live, what would you do?

Probably try and book a plane ticket to once more meet with the only girl I've loved in my life so far.
Unless things change...

Tyco:

How would you describe yourself in-game? Skiller? Impulsive? The rich guy at the GE?

Well I guess I have the title of "Marnit the bankstanding elf", though I've not been bankstanding that much lately.
Primarily quester. Skiller on the side.

You get a ticket to visit Gelinor IRL. Where do you go to first?

Probably Prifddinas, it's gorgeous.
Doubt that one's unexpected, hehe...

August 2016 008.png

What is your earliest RS memory?

Aside from tutorial island, probably getting lured into the wildy and losing my full addy armour set.
Felt like I'd lost all I had, almost lost hope of ever being able to slay elvarg, but shockingly I've managed to recoup that loss.
Only to lose more later, of course...
But hey, you've got to keep going, I guess?

August 2016 009.png

Shane:

How long have you been playing RuneScape?

Good question, I do not really know.
Probably either 2006 or 2007.

What is your current take on the direction that the game is heading in?

I guess equal disappointment and approval?
There are way too much MTX (money transaction) events and such, and more and more non-content or ignorable content weeks.
But I do like the larger updates we've been getting recently, for one my lovely new home city...

Except for the arc, it was terrible... (Santa: 15- icon wink.gif)

August 2016 010.png

What's the top fact that you think everyone should know about you?

Probably nothing, there is more important things to learn than about me...
If everyone should know about me, that would be quite narcissistic, lol.

Santa's copypasta:

What attracted you to clan quest, and what made you stay?

Tyco bribed me...

Nahh,

Well around the time the clan system arrived to runescape I'd applied to a clan for quest cape owners, and I really liked my time there.

August 2016 011.png

But shortly after the release of "Nomad's Requiem" aside from losing my cape for a long time, like many other clan members (which was fine), the leaders of the clan also deemed me unworthy, and I was kicked.
That actually made me quite sad, as i'd gotten to quite like some of the members of that clan, but all contact faded, pretty much in an instant.

Later I think after the release of the Dungeoneering diary I was in need of a potion for something, and I met some guy at Daemonheim who would be willing to make it for me if I joined their clan.

Turned out to be real nice people and I stuck in that clan for a long time, eventually essentially making it to the second highest position in that clan alongside some people who had become friends over time.

We kept building our citadel, growing over time, further and further. Things started to decline halfway through tier 7. For reasons not known to me, clan activity declined massively, and the citadel started to decay.

In a similar fashion, the chat started to die. Eventually with basically only me and the other leaders remaining loyal to the clan, it was decided to be disbanded.

At that point I figured I'd like to have another clan, people to talk to.
And I thought back about that Quest Cape clan, and thought that I'd probably like being around other questers.
As such the search for a quester's clan started, and this was the first one I'd found.
Looking in to it, it seemed like a large and reputable clan, so I figured I'd join the guest chat and check it out.
Gotten to know the people, and decided to proceed with application, then however finding out applications where closed.
And a lengthy process to join started...

What are some of the biggest changes you've seen, implemented in game? Any thoughts about them?

Removal of wilderness pking, liked it.
Removal of unbalanced trades, didn't affect me at the time.
Runescape HD, major improvement.
Return of pking, 3- icon sad.gif
Summoning, second highest skill, hehe.
EOC, confused me at the time, but I liked the increased interactivity in a combat system I always found dull.
NXT, once again I like it.

Is there a player or mod that you admire/ respect? Why?

I think you should respect everyone until they give you a reason not to?

Over the few years you've been playing, is there anything you've learned in-game that you've implemented in your real life?

It's unethical to disassemble animals, unless they are lizards.

August 2016 012.png

Well, you probably learn a bunch of things, but not something that I can think of now...

Now the other way around. Anything you took from real life to the game?

Probably more than the other way around, but probably remembering that people are people and should be treated properly?
Or something like that.
Man my answers are starting to get boring and politically correct now aren't they?

What is the nicest thing you've done for anyone? How about in game?

I like to think I'm nice to people on average.
But I can't think of some epic act of kindness of mine...

In game, well I guess the time I gave some clan member who lost their armour to a PKer my set of dragon armour, including a dragon plate.
Back then it actually still had some value...

What is your playstyle like?

Doing things I want done, and being semi-afk at times.

What do your irl friends say about you?

Not that much I guess...
But they always seem to disagree if i consider myself a terrible human being.
I guess that's positive?

What is your biggest regret in life/rs, and what have you learnt from it?

Something relating to that one girl, but which thing seems to differ from time to time.
What did I learn: well honestly, not that much I'm afraid.
People make the same mistakes over and over, and I have in the past.
All you can do is to try to not do it again, if you notice youself doing so.

What do you do when you're sad?

I tend to not really do anything as I lack the interest to do so.
Basically, it's super boring.

How did you train invention? What perk do you think is the most useful? Any tips to share?

Mainly through slaying and disassembling/siphoning weapons.
I personally don't think the perks are that amazing, but I guess the damage increasing ones?

Any tips?

Well invention is oddly balanced...
It involves a lot of combat and such, and as you level and get stronger.
You get better loot with more ease, allowing you to afford the skill better.
And then the charge drain upgrades make the skill cheaper...

So basically, don't worry, it gets cheaper later?

August 2016 013.png

Finally, please recommend us a song you like.

I already kinda did, but I could share some more...
Stephen - "Crossfire"
Ryder - "Ruins"
Still Corners - "Fireflies"
AlascA - "In Medias Res"
(Yep, no genre logic there again)

Now where did the name "Marnit" come from?

I'm actually called Martin irl, but that name's always taken.br /> So i've reversed the tin to nit, and that was pretty much always available.
Sadly people have started to steal that name on some services too lately though...

I don't remember anyone asking that...
Did you just add that last question yourself?

Yes, I did. 60- icon rr.png

An Interview with Derparnieux

We also have Derpa with us this month, also from the Netherlands. He was nice enough to send me 3 photos.

August 2016 014.jpg
With his grandpa just before graduation ball/dance last June.
August 2016 015.jpg
Photo from May last year, playing the priest in a school musical.
Photo from June last year, playing Wilbur in the Hairspray performances of musical group thingy. :]

Choto:

What was your very first accomplishment cape?

99 Fletching! I've always loved Fletching as a skill, I don't know why, and to make money when I started this account, I decided to get 99 Fletching making maple longbows/shieldbows (u). It was definitely worth it! This was around December 2012.

Where are you from?

I am from a small town in the southern part of the Netherlands.

If I were to visit your country, what do you think I should do first?

You can come over to hang out any time! Other than that, there are some pretty cool amusement parks like Walibi and the Efteling, which are worth checking out. I don't find my country particularly interesting though, but maybe that's just me.

August 2016 016.png

What are your favourite songs, both in RS and in real life?

I don't really have a favourite RS song, I only ever have music on while playing new releases and that's only for the sake of emersion. I don't actually closely listen to any of the RS songs.

Real-life favourite song is a very hard choice to make. My music style is generally quite punk/alternative. Right now, I'd probably go for:

Somewhere in Neverland by All Time Low
Memories by Panic! At The Disco
If It Means A Lot To You by A Day To Remember

Oh, and Props & Mayhem by Pierce The Veil. I suck at making choices.

Do you have a motto or a favourite phrase? If so, which is it?

August 2016 017.png

-Dita Von Teese (Probably my favourite quote in the history of mankind)

August 2016 018.png

-Tyrion Lannister (Game of Thrones) (my current WhatsApp status)

Which quest you believe to be the best in rs?

This is such a hard choice to make! I've always said my favourite quest is Missing, Presumed Death, because it was a very nice, lore-filled quest that literally opened the door for so much more future content (at that point). I think I'm going to stick to that answer for now. It's hard to pick a favourite though.

Do you play an instrument? If so, which one and which is you favourite music gender?

I, sadly, do not play an instrument. I'm more of a musical guy (but I don't dance - HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK), which mainly involves acting, dancing and singing.

My favourite music genre (assuming you mean genre, if not then ignore this) is probably punk rock (if that counts as a genre, my music knowledge is quite lacking).

Noggy:

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood? And what's the answer to life?

42. To both. (Same as Marnit? What dark sorcery..)

Tyco:

How would you describe yourself in-game? Skiller? Impulsive? The rich guy at the GE?

Lorehound, quester, skiller. I try to enjoy my time in-game and I don't really care about xp-wasting and efficiency.

You get a ticket to visit Gielinor IRL. Where do you go first?

Burthorpe Games Room, I love to play games. :*

What is your earliest RS memory?

I'm afraid my answer is going to be very cliché: getting slaughtered by the wizards near Varrock.

August 2016 019.png

Shane:

How long have you been playing RuneScape?

This account was created early August 2012, but I have played on different accounts on and off since around 2006. So about 10 years. Damn, time flies.

What is your current take on the direction that the game is heading in?

I'm lovin' it. No really, I am. I can't really explain why, but my enjoyment in playing this game has only ever increased since '06. I like the way it's heading.

What's the top fact that you think everyone should know about you?

..I actually have not a clue, I'm not a particularly interesting person. I'll just give you a summation of random facts about me, and you can pick your favourite:

I'm 18 years old. I'm starting university this September, gonna be studying "Econometrics and Operations Research", basically the most mathematically-influenced economics studies. I love maths, I really am an unbelievable math-head. I like theatre and musical (no, they're definitely not the same thing). I find growing up quite scary.

I'm bisexual, though I don't really care about the label (which is why I've never mentioned this before). I play Pokémon Go and I'm in Team Valor. I also play the main-series Pokémon games and I'm very excited for Pokémon Sun and Moon.

August 2016 020.png

Wanna know more about me? Don't hesitate, just ask me. My private is always on, and you can nearly always find me in the clan chat. Or send me a private message here on the offsite.

Santa:

What attracted you to clan quest, and what made you stay?

I was looking for a community with which I could discuss quests and lore and which was mainly interested in the same in-game things as me. I stayed because I found this in Clan Quest. I've been a member for over 3 years, time does really fly.

What are some of the biggest changes you've seen, implemented in game? Any thoughts about them?

I kind of remember the removal of free trade and the wilderness (and their subsequent return). That wasn't very fun. I was around on this account for the introduction of EoC, which I love. NIS as well, but I do really prefer using Legacy interfaces. NXT is also a thing I really love. Not sure what to add to this list.

Is there a player or mod that you admire/ respect? Why?

Mod Raven is pretty cool. Also, Draziw, of course. All hail the Boon!

August 2016 021.png
August 2016 022.png
(Earth, Sin, Draz and Kappa. A stalker never reveals his sources.)

To be fair, I find it very hard to admire people I don't know in real life. I don't know if that makes sense.

Over the few years you've been playing, is there anything you've learned in-game that you've implemented in your real life?

Determination and endurance. The grind has been real.

August 2016 023.png

Now the other way around. Anything you took from real life to the game?

Having patience with everyone around you and trying to be as helpful as people, bar the times when I'm in a bad mood because everyone has those days.

August 2016 013.png

What is the nicest thing you've done for anyone? How about in game?

I do volunteer work for multiple causes, I try to always be there for friends in any way I can - whether it's emotional support, tutoring, whatever. Same goes for in-game. I'm the kind of person who would randomly go the Grand Exchange or an f2p world and give a random person a Bond or drop a random stack of cash for someone to pick up and be happy with. Also, I try to be helpful.

But I'm not really the kind of person to blow my own horn (which is kind of ironic given the previous paragraph).

What's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

This is such a hard question to answer, but I'll try my best. So many people do so many nice things, it's hard to pick one. I'll tell you about a thing that happened recently.

So June for me was a very busy month: I had performances of the musical group thingy I'm a part of, and I was a backstage aid during (nearly) all performances which I wasn't a part of. In total there were 10 performances, I took part in 4 and I was backstage during 5 of those performances. Although I also did some backstage work during my own performances since I knew what had to be done from my own backstage experience, but that's just a sidenote.

August 2016 024.jpg
Playing Wilbur in the Hairspray performances of my musical group thingy. :*

Anyway, the last performance of this 'season', one in which I took part, had to be cancelled due to some theatre issues. This, coincidentally, was the show some of my friends were coming to watch (which is already a very nice thing). Suffice to say the cancellation really sucked and this night was quite emotional (we ended up going out with all of the people from that musical group, which ended up being a lot of fun).

Luckily, we did get to do this cancelled performance on another date, about a week and a half afterwards. However, due to some other circumstances, we had to do it in a theater about 45 minutes away, on a Tuesday night. Everyone was very excited we still got to do the musical one last time, but the timing and the location weren't optimal and we were afraid our earlier audience wouldn't come watch this time - for obvious reasons.

And a lot of people did actually come through and, even though circumstances weren't optimal, they decided to go the (literal and figurative) distance and actually come watch the performance anyway. Most of my friends (and some people I hadn't even expected to come) belonged to that group. I was amazed by the turn-up. That was really awesome.

tl;dr I have awesome friends

What is your playstyle like?

I try to do what I enjoy. I'm quite a relaxed player (even though I'm nearly comped). This game for me is about enjoying myself and having a good time.

What do your irl friends say about you?

They call me determined, intelligent, creative, intuitive, laid-back, caring, trustworthy, reliable, helpful. They also say I can, at times, be very cold, too direct, rebellious, and sometimes a quite obnoxious know-it-all. They're being too nice, really.

What is your biggest regret in life/rs, and what have you learnt from it?

I should take more chances. Can't think of anything specific though, but I'm generally quite the overthinker and too analytic. Risk aversion and such.

What do you do when you're sad?

Mostly go to bed and stare at the ceiling for a while. It helps.

How did you train invention? What perk do you think is the most useful? Any tips to share?

I'm probably not the person you should go to for advice on Perks, since I do not actually have a clue about most perks. I heard Venomblood and Aftershock are quite nice, but really, I don't know. Fishvention all the way! Currently 116, only 22 rod-o-matics to go until 120. :*

August 2016 025.png
August 2016 026.png

Finally, please recommend us a song you like.

One song? Dang, this is hard. A song that's always meant a lot to me is Somewhere Only We Know by Keane, but most people know that song already, so it's not a very solid recommendation. If you're into the more grunty, alternative kind-of stuff, listen to Texas Is Forever, Circles or Phantom Power and Ludicrous Speed by Pierce The Veil.

If not: Emperor's New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco.

Whoops, those were 5 songs. Oh well. I tried!

There's 2 interviews this month. Thank you both for the nice and detailed answers, as well as the people who took time to ask questions. You guys are the real MVP's 2- icon smile.gif

RSMV Review

Today we have an old RSMV by Yaymyshow. Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton, made famous by the movie White Chicks.

The editing isn't the best, but it was gold back in the days. Nostalgia glasses there. But there's 1 good thing- the use of cookie cutter effect is timed very well. The use of chroma key as greenscreen is really good as well. One of the best things is full clips with no editing with multiple verses typed fast over each other. Nowadays we can't do it, as we have to press enter to chat. Text of RS only stay on for 2 ticks (1.2 seconds) so typing 3 phrases non stop is a skill useful. What's more, it has to sync with the song. A tall order for the inexperienced.

Clan Quest Bulletin
August 2016

Another month has passed, and Summer is running its course (or Winter, for our southern hemispherean friends). July has been a quiet month, and I was away for most of it myself too. Summer is also the time where, among the new faces, familiar faces return to the game to join the questing gang once again. I hope that everybody, whether long time active, returning, or even new to the clan, is enjoying their Summer so far. Please join me in discussing what is happening in the clan, before and behind the scenes, before heading to the beach, lying down on a chair, before realising the makeover mage can change your tan instantly.

RuneFest
The RuneFest ticket sale is well underway, and several clan members have already confirmed to be coming. Let us know when you are planning to come, because this is one of the best opportunities to meet clan members for real and have some fun with them. If you are still on the fence, better make your decision quickly because according to Jagex the tickets are selling out quickly!

Friend's Chat
I just want to do a quick reminder that Clan Quest also has a Runescape friend's chat (also named "Clan Quest", what a coincidence!). We get help requests and OSRS players in there regularly, so it is important that we have some presence there. If you are not using any other friend's chat, please default to joining the "Clan Quest" friend's chat.

Note that the "Clan Quest" friend's chat is also the preferred chat to use for organising clan events.

Offsite 2.0
I don't have anything new to show you, because Shane has been bickering away the past few weeks on getting a lot of details right, but rest assured that progress is being made and we are hoping to release the new offsite as soon as possible!

Discord
Of course I can't do a bulletin without a quick update on Discord. From what I can tell it is being more and more adopted. I am hoping to slowly start up some events and ideas that will use the Discord platform to promote it even further. If you haven't checked it out yet, make sure to take a look at this thread and join the fun!

Recruitment
We are now a few months into the new recruitment system, and that is long enough to make some observations about how things are going. The number of recruits coming in is lower, and we are having a higher guest presence in our clan chat, but I am certain that we currently have a healthy number of incoming recruits. If you are one of them: welcome to you all!

The Recruitment Razzers are quite inactive right now, so we would really appreciate any young blood to join the team. It involves welcoming guests to the clan chat and helping them through the recruitment process if necessary (even if you're not a Razzer member, helping out like this is very much appreciated!), and looking for potential reqruits on the RuneScape Official Forums. You will also be allowed to sponsor multiple members, invite guests to the clan, both of these represented by a shiny silver cross. If you are interested, get in contact with Irene Angel or a High Councillor.

#shamelesspromotion
By the grace of Brassica Prime, I - Cireon "the Voice" the Handsome - have ascended as co-host for this quarter of RSBANDBUpdate!, a weekly podcast ran by a well-known clan member that goes by the name Shane. If you are interested in hearing different opinions about Runescape updates and content, with a bit of added community reflection, tech news, and general joking around, you should definitely give it a try. Especially this quarter there will be many familiar voices from other clan members joining as well, so it has never been a better time to get started on your weekly dose of Runescape update news.

The latest episode can be found here.

Survey responses
Thanks for everybody who took the time to respond on the survey. The response has been very positive and I hope I will be able to keep you all updated through this spot for many months to come. Feel free to send me a PM if you have any suggestions or feedback, and I'll make sure to incorporate it as soon as possible!

Article by Cireon

It’s been over a year.

¡Hola! (Hello, hallo, hej, salut, ciao, dia duit, olá, hallå, привет and so on), Choto here.

I guess you’ve read the title. “What’s that about, Choto?”, you may ask. “Well, [Insert name here*, last month I found out that my first year in the clan had already passed”, I would answer.
As a RS player, I’ve been part of a great number of clans. I even created one few years ago. But they never lasted long enough as to create a solid community. Today, however, I realize that I am one number amongst 450 others that, together, make The Questing Clan of RuneScape what it is. I am not only proud of being part of it, but also grateful, because I managed to find the MOST comfortable and friendly place of the game. And, as an adventurer and quester, that was one of my many goals.

I’ve met not few, but many amazing people. I’ve quested, skilled, dungeoneered, slayed, chatted, discussed, laughed, minigamed, bankstanded, afked, spotted (and more) with lots of you guys. I guess I still need to pvm with you but we have time. Right now I gotta stop writing because Tyco is calling for a Treasure Hunting event. Bbl

Ok, two days have passed, because the event cut my inspiration (Shame on you, Tyco). As I was saying, this Clan has become my virtual community full of virtual friends. Virtual but at the same time, real, because behind the words and the avatars you are, after all, real people. People that I’ve found to have a lot of different opinions on different matters. Even if the main talk of the chat is about RuneScape, I’ve read opinions and life experiences about sports, music, hobbies, work, studies, travel, gaming (yes, there actually ARE more games than runescape), and many more. And I completely fell in love with this magazine that is made by Santa a team of great people.

So this is, of course, not about commemorating me joining the clan, but to commemorate all of you, who make this community possible, and who kindly accepted me as a part of you.

Thank you all,

Choto out.

PS: AND I MEANT GENRE!!!! My English sometimes betrays me like that.
