CLAN QUEST PEOPLE
by Santa Ends
An Interview with Mell

~!~ ***** ~!~

Hello clannies, we have Mell from The Netherlands with us this month. Mell is an avid bosser, a full time mom and aspires to own a party hat.

April 2016 002.jpg

Alaska:

What's the story behind the RSN?

That's quite a boring story. My real name is Melissa, but everybody I know calls me Mell. So I figured... It's kind of incognito, why not.

(I'm always interested in this sorry) Favourite movies, TV shows, books and games?

I don't really have a favorite movie... I guess I enjoyed the Harry Potter movies, Pirates of the Caribbean and Van Helsing.

TV shows however, I have a lot of favorites there. Smallville, Futurama, The Nanny, Frasier, Chuck, Charmed, Two Guys a Girl and a pizza place, Family Guy, Friends and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

Books... I love to read, but my favorite literature? Donald Duck comics. I'm an adult, I swear! I simply can't help myself. Other than that are the Harry Potter and Vampire academy books high on my list at the moment.

April 2016 003.png

What was your favourite subject in primary school?

History, and it still is eventhough I'm not in school anymore. Should I ever get the chance, which I'm afraid I won't, I'd like to be an archaeologist and dig up stuff or solve the stonehenge mysteries.

April 2016 004.png

Have you always been into PvM on RuneScape, or was it something you got into at a certain point of playing the game?

Yeah it just happened. I used to be a skiller... Well no, okay I used to be a bankstander. And I started combining that with woodcutting, making the conversations move to the Catherby yews. And for a while that used to be my only 99. When it was still cool 6- icon cool.gif

April 2016 005.png

Bossing was something onheard of for me. But a few years back I really needed to get my mind of reality, and bossing (for a noob like me) was so intense that I needed to focus on it so much that it was a nice break of my worries outside of RS. Once I got into bossing I found out that I really liked getting drops, and I just stuck with it.

April 2016 006.png

(I don't know an awful lot about you 1- icon biggrin.png) Where in the world are you from?

Netherlands, south-west. 2- icon smile.gif

April 2016 007.png

Karen:

What is your normal blood pressure?

I don't know exactly but it's always been a little below average, but still good.

Do you do any sports? If so how long, have you been in the sport?

Does baby lifting count? :') I don't have time for sports! I am cycling through town and dragging my son around all day, so I guess I get plenty of exercise. When I have free time I spend it on RS. So uh... Favorite sport = Agility? :$

April 2016 008.png

Who is your favorite athlete?

Don't have any, sorry.

Do you watch anime? Which anime is your favorite?

No, but I used to watch Dragon Ball Z when I grew up.

April 2016 009.png

How often do you brush your teeth?

Twice, unless lunch makes me wanna do it a third time.

What is you favorite car?

GTA Vice City's Cheetah :d

April 2016 010.png

Would you rather rob a bank or work in construction? Why?

Robbing a bank sounds fun. I'm too clumsy to work in contstruction. Destruction would be a great career choice though.

What is your favorite kind of music?

Rock music.

What do you normally do on your free time?

If I have time to spare I'd like to play RS or watch TV shows. Often I'm too tired for RS so TV it is.

Why do you think makes you such a bad ass pvmer???

I don't think I am! It's just some weird rumor people were spreading. If anything I'm a below average pvmer.

MsK:

Hardly know you in game, and for some reason I thought you are a guy...but I see you have a female avatar...so do I believe you are female?

Yes, I do believe so too. People have been thinking I'm a guy for the past 10 years. Maybe I should just make a selfie already :c

In your interests posted here, you say you like 'painting' ? What medium do you use for that? Can you post any of your artistic works for us?

It's nothing serious. I just sometimes use it as expression. What I paint is very personal, how I'm feeling at the moment. I never show my work to anyone, not in real either. Sorry!

April 2016 011.png

Also you say you like 'family'. Is that your growing up family? or the one you are making if you have 'left home' ? Do you have brothers and sisters?

Both. I love spending time with family in general. My growing up family, aswell as people I consider family and my household.

And yep, one older brother and two younger sisters.

And you like 'questing' + 'questing' + 'questing'. Well that sure shows in your quest totals! So is there any quest line that is your favorite?

I had quit RS for a few years and when I came back I had some quests to do. So I started questing without a guide and had no idea what to expect. First getting blown to bits in Ritual of the Mahjarrat by the (#*)$@ dragonkin was kinda fun... Aswell as the quest.

But then when I did The World Wakes it was great! All these factions came together to kill Guthix, like yeah -as if- we are going to see a real RS god... -Let alone kill him - Keep dreaming. And then there were these boss fights -neat-, and then "What was that!", uhm idk. Everyone was mad at me all of the sudden and tried to kill me which was a nice turn of events.

And then O MY GOD it's Guthix. Lol he looks funny. O GUTHIX IS GOING TO DIE. Well that was epic. All in all the quest was a crazy rollercoaster for me, and that's why I like it best :-)

April 2016 012.png

Tyco:

What is your favorite god in Runescape? Why?

Back when people thought RuneScape was flat there were three gods. Saradomin, Zamorak and Guthix. I was a loyal worshipper of Zamorak. Untill Guthix died. Now it's #team Sliske.

April 2016 013.png

Some loyalty, huh.
Guess that explains it.

How long have you been playing Runescape?

Since 2005.

April 2016 014.png

What is your earliest memory of Runescape? Is it slaying goblins?

My first memory is buying a mithril longsword for 30K which was my entire fortune. Then, as I was walking to Varrock, I got blown to bits by the mages south of it and lost my sword. I've been poor ever since. Woe is me.

April 2016 015.png

How would you describe yourself in Runescape? As an adventurer, combatant, skiller and/or bankstander? Or maybe a bit of everything?

Adventurer that likes to go on a killing spree :-)

Santa:

What attracted you to clan quest, and what made you stay?

I was looking for a place where I could talk and conspire with people that had the same interests as me: Questing and lore.
The reason I'm staying is because there are some fun people in the clan 2- icon smile.gif

April 2016 016.png

What are some of the biggest changes you've seen, implemented in game? Any thoughts about them?

Yeah, no biggies. Just EOC when I came back to RS. Took me a while to figure that out :')

Is there a player or mod that you admire/ respect? Why?

No heroes. Just because someone is a mod or highly ranked somewhere doesn't make them better than any other person in my opinion.
'I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally.' - W.C. Fields
^ One of my favorite and most accurate quotes 15- icon wink.gif

April 2016 017.png

Over the few years you've been playing, is there anything you've learned in-game that you've implemented in your real life?

Ingame I improved my english. Also that there are a lot of guys that like to use female characters. 21/25 females I meet are male :O

April 2016 018.png

Now the other way around. Anything you took from real life to the game?

Kinda, maybe. In real life I'm very shy and quiet. Ingame I let "my wild side" out. It's a role playing game ofcourse, and when I equip my drygores I go straight into "1v1 me in wildy, noob"-mode.

What is the nicest thing you've done for anyone? How about in game?

It isn't nice once you start bragging about it 1- icon biggrin.png

What's the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

Eh... So much. It's hard to pick just one thing.

What are your current goals in Runescape? Aspirations in real life? What is your playstyle like? Xp, cape goals, money or general companionship etc.

Goals in RS: That party hat pls. I don't have any skill goals. Every skill that I liked to train is 99 already, and all the others will get there in time with enough XP lamps/accidental training. It is common knowledge that when online, I usually boss. Every kill is a potential good drop, which keeps it intersting.

Real life: Expand the household, have a happy family.

April 2016 019.png

If money, time, commitments etc. was no issue, what would your perfect day look like?

I already have everything I want, so I can't imagine a "perfect day" to be any different from the ones I already experience every day.

April 2016 020.png

What do your irl friends say about you?

They better not be saying anything! :$

What is your biggest regret in life, and what have you learnt from it?

I don't have regrets, just some major learning moments. All very personal.

Is there a promise you made to yourself, that you kept true to this day?

Not so much a promise, but a believe. Treat another like you want to be treated yourself. Also live and let live.

What is the biggest lesson you've ever learnt, or took to heart?

Paranoid people live longer. Well, my dad told me that applies to me.

Also, don't stand near/on electronic cables. Things tend to go boom when I'm near.

What do you do when you're sad?

Put a pizza in the oven.

April 2016 021.png

How did you get good at DG? You're a lot better than most I've seen.

Either you're mistaking me with someone else or your dungeon parties have been seriously tragic XD I'm Miss Laggalot, dungeon with me takes twice as long.

April 2016 022.png

Why "road to partyhat"? Lessking says they do nothing and don't look good. Prove him wrong!

Yeah ofcourse they don't look good. I agree with him on that. But it's the idea that counts. I've spend all this time on RS and I still can't afford a silly party hat. I mean come on! If I should have one ultimate RS goal, that should be it.

Feel free to not answer if you feel uncomfortable.

Or feel free not to read if you feel uncomfortable 1- icon biggrin.png

Finally, please recommend us a song you like.

Duran Duran - A view to a kill

That's my Freneskae song btw. I was listening to it when I was doing Fate of the Gods. And now, whenever I go there, I plays in my head.
Okay fine. I play it a lot more often than that. It's my theme song 6- icon cool.gif

But tell me, imagine hopping around in Freneskae's thunderstorm, does it not fit?

Meeting you with a view to a kill
Face to face in secret places feel the chill
Nightfall covers me
But you know, the plans I'm making
Still oversee
Could it be the whole earth opening wide
A sacred why, a mystery gaping inside
The weekends why, until we

[Chorus]
Dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire
To fatal sounds of broken dreams
Dance into the fire
That fatal kiss is all we need
Dance into the fire

The choice for you is the view to a kill
Between the shades assassination standing still
The first crystal tears
Fall as snowflakes on your body
First time in years
To drench your skin with lover's rosy tan
A chance to find a phoenix for the flame
A chance to die, but can we

[Chorus]

When all we see is the view to a kill

On the Topic of Efficiency

Hey clannies, I have decided to try something different this month. Topic discussions, to promote usage of the offsite. Thank you Hemsky and Draziw for taking time out to write your thoughts. As much as I enjoy the discussions a lot, I had to "murder your darlings" for easier reading. I highly recommend you all to check the link in the title for the full thread. It's so.. different and wonderful.

"Hemsky" wrote
I do think that the overall evolution of RS has been a downgrade to the experience. Grinding out that seemingly unattainable level is no longer painful, and hard to do.

I do like that they made it easier to train those skills that everyone hates, but at the same time, it feels like the ability to gain gross amounts of xp quickly and easily has caused everyone to adopt an AFK, efficiency based mentaility, which sucks man.

I do kinda miss the grind days man. They may have sucked, but rs was still all about making friends with the people you were grinding with.
"SantaEnds" wrote
Grinding tough stuff was what was social, in some cases. Powermining granite and iron before living rock caverns update were extremely antisocial. But woodcutting spots, catherby fishing were prime locations to talk.
"Draziw" wrote
Players could play other RPGs that were in most ways better than RuneScape. The games had better graphics, better stories, easier gameplay, and were, to put it bluntly, superior in nearly every technical aspect. And yet… RuneScape thrived as a game because it had that key element other games couldn’t provide.

Human interaction was unquantifiable. RuneScape let each gamer interact with players from all around the world.

As the look of the game became more modern, so did the tools in the game. The ability for us as the player to do things within the game has changed dramatically. Less attention is needed for every skill in the game.

What’s the fastest way to earn fishing experience? Waterfall fishing in Prifddinas? No. Fishing in Dungeoneering with difficulty level 2. What’s the fastest way to earn mining experience? Mining at Seren Stones in Prifddinas? No. Mining at the Lava Mines and hopping to the correct world for boosts.

Now the reward of RuneScape is becoming the completion of personal tasks and goals. This is okay. But there is little difference between RuneScape and many other games on the market..

How do we fix it?

Well the fix is an unpopular one, but easy to implement. Make things more difficult to do, and quit releasing content within the game that has such an overwhelming focus on completion.

We still have people asking for cookies in their introductions...and we do have a great "Clan Cookie" so I would like to submit this old recipe from the July 2012 issue for re-print by popular demand. Everyone should know about our famous Cabboookies.

~!~ CABBOOKIES ~!~
A recipe contributed by Dirty Rain.
*****************************

July 2012 005.png
The Cabbookie Special Cookie Jar
Ingredients:

1/4 cup light olive oil
3/4 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon cabbage extract*
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup dried cabbage leaves*

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
In a large bowl, mix together oil and sugar until well blended. Mix in the vanilla and cabbage extracts, then beat in the eggs. Combine flour, salt, and baking powder; gradually stir into egg mixture. Mix in the dried cabbage by hand.
Divide dough in half. Form two logs (12x2 inches) on a cookie sheet that has been lined with parchment paper. Dough may be sticky; wet hands with cool water to handle dough more easily.

Bake for 35 minutes in the preheated oven, or until logs are light brown. Remove from oven, and set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
Reduce oven heat to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).

Cut logs on diagonal into 3/4 inch thick slices. Lay on sides on parchment covered cookie sheet. Bake approximately 8 to 10 minutes, or until dry; cool.

* Test kitchen notes - Special cabbage ingredients must be player made. To make "cabbage extract", place the cabbage on the ground, and sit on it for two minutes. Juices will be pressed out, and you can collect them in an empty vial. "Dried cabbage leaves" have to be Sun Dried, therefore take them to the desert and place them atop the Agility Pyramid for maximum sun exposure. Leave them five days to completely dry, then pack in sealed air tight pots.

RSMV- Say Something

This is Say Something by We the Kings, done by Rocketrock88. Host of the annual Rocketrock88's RSMV contest, every RSMVers' golden gnomes. He's known being one of the few who use RS3 exclusively, actively maintaining his Completionist. Never one to look back, he brings something new to the table every single time. This is no exception. Done mostly in black and white, on RS3- the irony, but to great effect. He doesn't possess much orb of oculus skills or masterful editing skills, but this is what makes him great in his own way. He makes it up for awesome camera movements and tasteful emote choices.

He will go to the end of the world to make a scene look apt- be it buying solomon store emotes- even expensive ones like magic pack, utilising expensive treasure trail items like the dragon staff, or entering the portal to Puro Puro countless times until the scene is done right.

Many RSMVers don't really use slow camera movements, presumably because of the tiring re- films until it's done right- but he does it for almost ever scene. You can imagine the amount of clips he films.
